SA Bush Poetry Club members Jill Wherry and Heather Giles have been coming to the Barmera Library each year for six years for a Bush Poetry afternoon.

This year’s session on Tuesday 4th June was advertised in the official Country Music Program and attracted the biggest audience yet to our Library.

Over 60 people attended the hour long concert and were entertained by ten visiting and local poets all with unique styles and subjects, as well as Ukulele player Joyce Pamintuan who played Waltzing Matilda and country songs from her native land. Compere Jill Wherry kept the stories and laughter flowing.

The last performer was the well-known Bob Maygor, who took time from his busy schedule to fit in a special guest appearance at the Barmera Library.

Bob recited some of his very funny poems, to the delight of the audience.

Afternoon tea with biscuits and scones followed the concert, and all agreed that this year’s Bush Poetry Session at the Barmera Library was our most successful yet!

If you missed this year’s event don’t worry- plans are already underway for next year’s session.
